Children who study a musical instrument are more likely to excel in their studies, work better in teams, and pursue further education. Yet in the past decade, funding for arts education has fallen 47%.
This year, we are thrilled to announce that, following their public installation (June 5–25), we will transport all of The 2017 Sing for Hope Pianos to new permanent homes in NYC public schools, bringing the power of the arts to an estimated 15,000 New York City school children in 2017–2018.
To make this a reality, Sing for Hope must fundraise $25,000. With your help, we can bring the life-changing gift of music to our city's neediest students.
Will you help us by making a donation today?
Sing for Hope must raise $25,000 in order to cover all of the transportation, insurance, permitting, tuning, and coordination costs associated with bringing the 50 pianos to their 50 new school homes, where they will impact an estimated 15,000 students. This works out to just $1.67 per child to ensure a beautiful artist-created piano and a year of access to musical programming in under-resourced schools.
With your support, we will be able to cover the $25,000 cost of bringing all the pianos to our schools. The cost includes:
- Piano moving costs, transporting the instruments from city parks to their new permanent NYC school homes
- Piano technicians and tuners, ensuring that the pianos arrive to their new homes in tip-top shape
- Required insurances, filings, and permits.
Every dollar will help bring the gift of a Sing for Hope Piano to a New York City public school.
Music can change a child's life forever. Please be the Key Change in a child's life by donating whatever you can! Your generosity means the world to children experiencing musical instruments and regular arts programming for the first time.
On behalf of our students, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
"I believe in the creative potential of New York City, and I applaud everything Sing for Hope does to develop that potential. This summer, Sing for Hope will create a beautiful and worthy moment for our city by bringing the Sing for Hope Pianos to our city’s parks and public spaces. It's things like this, the endless possibilities represented in these streets, that make me extra proud to be a New Yorker."
"We are delighted to have this piano in our home and in our community. This piano has brought smiles to faces, calm and peace throughout the building, an extra sense of pride for the young people in this community, and brought all ages of people together. This piano is doing for our community exactly what Sing for Hope’s vision was inspired to do....it’s brought hope!"
The 2017 Sing for Hope Pianos are made possible by the support of The Fosun Group and 28 Liberty, The Sing for Hope Founders’ Circle (The Arnhold Foundation in loving memory of Sissy Arnhold, The Anna-Maria & Stephen Kellen Foundation, and Ann Ziff), and the generosity of donors like you.
Sing for Hope is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN 01-0856384). Your donation is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.
For two weeks each summer, The Sing for Hope Pianos brings artist-created pianos to our city’s parks and public spaces for anyone and everyone to play. Following the two week public installation, we bring the instruments to new, permanent homes in the under-resourced schools, healthcare facilities, veterans’ centers, and community organizations we serve year-round, uplifting lives for years to come. As NYC’s largest recurring public art project, The Sing for Hope Pianos impacts an estimated 2 million New Yorkers and visitors each year.
